                 Minutes of January 13th, 2025 City Council Meeting

The Missouri City, Missouri, City Council held their monthly open meeting at the MCCA Building on Monday, January 13th, 2025, at 6:30 pm.   Attending:  Mayor Barry Moore, Clerk Julie Freeman, Council members Mickey Stewart (Ward One, Jan Kohl (Ward Three), Johanna Davis (Ward Four), City Chief Information Officer (CIO) Paul “Woody” Owen plus residents Monte Railey, Danny Bush, and Miles Jackson.  Ward Two Council person Joe Selle was unavailable.  

Mayor Moore called the meeting to order.  Minutes from the December 9th, 2024, meeting were read and approved.

Councilperson Davis made a motion to authorize bill payment as presented.  The motion was seconded by Councilperson Stewart and passed by a 3-0 vote.

Old Business

City Phone Changes:  Councilperson Jan Kohl stated the new city phone is active and ready.  CIO Woody Owen will set up the name on the phone when a call is made to show as Mo City Mo Clerk on the receiving end, and will then turn the phone over to city clerk Julie Freeman when ready.  Thank you, councilperson Kohl and CIO Owen for setting this all up!  

Website and IT Support:  CIO Owen discussed with the group that Brandon will be sending e-mails to each city council member to set up their e-mail addresses soon.

Mayor Moore and Treasurer Hufford are exploring options for a second credit card for city purchases. 

Evergy Requests:  Councilperson Kohl has finally received help from Tanya with Evergy to replace 2 lights in town and replace a flashing bulb on Walnut. No timeline for the repair was offered, however, the light on Walnut has now been fixed.  The other two new lights are not installed as of yet.

Tree Trimming along Public Roads:  Mayor Moore is expecting a second bid for tree trimming along Stillhouse road in the near future.   

Snow removal from the recent ice and snow storms were a huge success for our city.  Thank you, Mayor Moore for making sure the equipment and supplies were ready to go, and thank you to Bobby Jeffries and Danny Bush for braving the winter storm to make sure our roads were safe for our community! Mayor Moore will order more sand/salt mix to be ready for the next round of weather.

Community Calendar:  

New Business

Mayor Moore will consult with the Sherriff concerning properties with excess trash, weeds and possible animal neglect.

City file cabinet will be moved from city clerk Railey’s home to city hall soon. 

Capital Sand Company is working to add a functioning scale to the location that will help determine any city sales tax that can be collected from non-exempt sales.

The Louis and Clark plaque has been located by a farmer’s plow and has been returned to Mayor Moore with a bit of damage from the plow.  Conversations are in progress to determine if it can be repaired or replaced.

Mayor Moore has received fliers from the Children’s Services Fund 2023 Impact Report and handed them out to those in attendance.  Council person Davis will distribute some of them to the Mo City School.

Mayor Moore will look at any ditches that may need clearing when the weather is better.

The next monthly Council meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 10th, 2025 at 6:30 pm in the MCCA Building.
