                 Minutes of October 14th, 2024 City Council Meeting

The Missouri City, Missouri, City Council held their monthly open meeting at the MCCA Building on Monday, October 14th, 2024, at 6:30 pm.   Attending:  Mayor Barry Moore, Clerk Monte Railey, Council members Mickey Stewart (Ward One, Jan Kohl (Ward Three), Johanna Davis (Ward Four), City Chief Information Officer (CIO) Paul “Woody” Owen plus residents, Danny Bush, Julie Freeman and Corey Freeman.  Ward Two Councilperson Joe Selle was unavailable.  

Mayor Moore called the meeting to order.  Minutes from the September 9th, 2024, meeting were read and approved.

Councilperson Davis made a motion to authorize bill payment as presented.  The motion was seconded by Councilperson Kohl and passed by a 3-0 vote.

Old Business

417 Main Rezoning Request:  The Council agreed to approve the request to rezone 417 Main from Residential to dual Residential/Business.  Mayor Moore will communicate with the County to determine the proper process for documenting the change.

Fire Station Roof Repairs:  Repairs completed.  Mayor Moore reported the Treasurer for the Fishing River Fire Protection District advised him a check is being prepared to reimburse the city for the roof repairs. 

City Website and IT Support:  CIO Paul “Woody” Owen reported that the missouricitymo.gov website is up and running.  Users accessing the old site (missouricitymo.com) will be automatically connected to the new site.  He also shared figures indicating hosting and yearly fees will eventually be reduced by sixty percent after the transition is completed. 

City Phone: Councilperson Kohl is still working with Verizon on the new service.  

October Clean Up Weekend: Dumpsters will be placed in front of the city garage on Friday, October 18th, for the bi-annual clean up weekend.  Measures have been arranged to ensure use only by Missouri City residents. 

New Business

Ordinance #156 – Proposed Ordinance #156, “An Ordinance Regarding The Parking Of Certain Trucks And Semi-Trailers On City Streets, Sidewalks And Shoulders And Providing Penalties Therefor”, was read in entirety by Mayor Moore.  After much discussion, the Council decided to table the proposal until the November meeting. 

Community Calendar:  The October 24th Trunk or Treat event at the school will be added to the community calendar.

The next monthly Council meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 11th, 2024 at 6:30 pm in the MCCA Building.
